Miss Lizz's PreK Class

An adventure into education

General Information and Policies

Dear Parents,

Here is an overview of important information and policies. This will hopefully answer some of your questions. More detailed information can be found in the Early Childhood Family Handbook and you can always ask me anytime!

 Arrival and Dismissal

In the morning, you may drop your child off at the classroom from 7:15a.m. -8:00 a.m.  Organized classroom activities begin at 8:00 a.m..

If your child arrives later than 8:00 a.m., please receive a late slip from the elementary school office so that your child will be recorded as present at school.

Our students are dismissed from our classrooms at 1:00 p.m. On the Student Information Form you will be given, please let us know who is authorized to pick up your child on a regular basis (which people will have their fingerprint scanned into the system). On any day that someone different will be picking up your child, please inform us so that security will allow them to come into the school.

If you need to pick your child up before 1:00 p.m., you will need to get a dismissal slip from the elementary school office.

Snack and Lunch

The school provides a small snack daily which typically consists of milk and a banana.

Please send healthy food every day.  Good examples would be sandwiches, cut up fruit and vegetables, and yoghurt.  Also remember to send a water bottlePlease NO chocolates, candy, or chips!

AIS is an Allergy Aware school. There is a student in Pre-K with a life-threatening peanut and tree nut allergy.  Therefore, please do not send nuts and nut-based foods to school.

Extra Clothes

Please send in a shoebox with your child’s extra clothes so that we can change your child into clean clothes in case of an accident.

Sometimes children like to bring a toy from home to school. Bringing toys from home is more than welcome, especially as it can help children feel more comfortable in their new classroom. However, please keep in mind that toys can sometime get broken and children may become upset, so please be mindful of the toys you allow your child to bring to school.

We love celebrating birthdays at school! It’s so much fun and the students get so excited for a party! If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday in class, please schedule it with the teacher.  Birthdays can be celebrated during last 30 minutes of the school day (12:30-1:00).  Small individual cupcakes are a better choice for a school party, especially at this age.  As per AIS policy, please do not bring gifts or decorations and only parents should attend the party.

Pre-K follows the Primary Years Program (PYP) as AIS is an IB World school.  We use play-based learning to teach and support our students’ intellectual, social, emotional, physical development to help them become critical thinkers are inspired by the joy of learning! Our program includes:

  • Four Units of Inquiry that provide a framework for exploring and learning: Who We Are, How the World Works, Sharing the Planet, How We Express Ourselves
  • Social-emotional development
  • Fine and gross motor skills development
  • Math
  • Literacy
  • E.
  • Art/ Music
  • Arabic

Parent/Teacher Communication

Parents are the child’s first teacher, therefore AIS considers parents to be integral in their child’s social, emotional and academic development. We believe that teachers and parents work together to help children learn and develop. This is why we feel that communication between home and school is an important part of your child’s success at school.

Information about what is happening in your child’s classroom, as well as upcoming events and other important reminders will be communicated regularly on this classroom blog.

Please sign up to follow the blog (www.misslizzprek.wordpress.com) so that you will be notified of weekly postings.

There are a number of ways that you can communicate with me. You may send an email (elizabeth.siegel@ais-kuwait.org ), set an appointment during school hours through the elementary office, or call during school hours (184 3247 ext. 104.) Please don’t hesitate to contact your me with any questions or concerns.

We are looking forward to building relationships with you and your children, and to a year full of learning, growing and having fun!
