Dear Parents,

Student-Led Conferences will be this Wednesday May 17th, 2017. This night is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate your child’s learning and what he or she has accomplished this year.  This conference is different from the previous conferences, so I thought I would share some information that you may find helpful:

  • Your child will be leading the conference
  • You will have 30 minutes with your child in the classroom
  • There will be two or three other parent-student groups in the classroom at the same time as you
  • The classroom will be set up with different areas which reflect some of what we focused on from each of our Units of Inquiry:
    • Who We Are
    • How the World Works
    • Sharing the Planet
    • How We Express Ourselves
    • Arabic
  • You and your child will have 5 minutes in each area. There will be a timer displayed so you will know how much time you have left and when it’s time to move on to the next area.

What is the student’s role during the Student-Led Conference?

  • You and your child will participate in each activity together
  • Your child will be familiar with the activities, so he or she should be able to lead you through the activities
  • There will also be some directions at each area to help you and your child, if needed

So what is your role as a parent during the Student-Led Conference?

  • You and your child will participate in each activity together
  • Your child will be familiar with the activities, so please allow your child the opportunity to explain things and ‘help’ you.

What is the teacher’s role during the Student-Led Conference?

  • Marina and I will let your child take the lead in each activity, but we will be there to help keep things focused and going smoothly, if necessary
  • The Student-Led Conference is about your child showing you what he or she can do and what he or she has learned this year. If there are things you would like to discuss with me about your child, I would be happy to set up a meeting with you on another day.

If you have any questions about the student-led conference, please don’t hesitate to ask!

All the best,

Miss Lizz
