Dear Families,

Last week we got to learn about Mr. Tortoise and experience our slow moving friend. Mr. Tortoise did not do a whole lot, but he did provide us with the patience of exploring and learning all about the difference between him and a toy tortoise. Students were able to explore the differences of a living and a non-living tortoise and discover the properties of living things doing this comparison. We enjoyed watching Mr. Tortoise, feeding him lettuce, and touching his hard shell and soft legs.

What’s Happening In Our Class This Week

This week, our class pet is the fish, Marco. He will be a neat pet to observe as he is not one we can play with and touch, like the other pets we have had so far. We will be inquiring into how we, as humans, need to be responsible for living things and how our behaviour impacts animals like fish. We will revisit the properties of our real fish vs. our toy fish, like when we compared Ms. Kate’s fish Magic, to our toy fish, Johnson.

Kuwait National Day

This week, we will be making lots of crafts and decorations to celebrate Kuwait National Day! We have so many fun ideas to create. We look forward to you seeing all the wonderful ways we express our love for Kuwait!

This year, we will be celebrating Kuwait National Day on Thursday, February 23rd. Students may dress in traditional Kuwaiti clothing or wear the colours of the Kuwait flag. We will be taking part in an assembly with the whole elementary school in the morning and will have our own Pre-K assembly later in the day. We would also like to have a small celebration in class including traditional Kuwaiti food. I would kindly like to ask for volunteers to bring in traditional Kuwaiti food for the us to enjoy. This may include Machboos, Sambousak, Harees, Jareesh, Kuwaiti desserts or any other traditional Kuwait food. I am sure a lot of you know more than these few items I have mentioned so please feel free to send anything that is Kuwaiti! Also, please know that it is not necessary for every parent to send food or we will have too much food! We only need Kuwaiti food, please do not send pizza, popcorn, cupcakes, etc.

Please e-mail me at elizabeth.siegel@ais-kuwait.org to let me know what you are able to bring so that we do not have multiples of one type of food.

Thank you for your continuous support!
