We just finished a fun week with our bird friends, Ruby and Dory. The students demonstrated how their behaviour impacts living things by being gentle with our birds, feeding them and giving them fresh water, cleaning their cage, and attempting to train them. We learned how these types of birds, budgies, are actually part of the larger parakeet family and that they can be trained to sit on your finger and fly back to you. We did not get this far in our attempts, but at least the birds seem far more comfortable around lots of people now. We continued to classify living and non-living things by their properties. We inquired into the form and properties of living things by seeing the difference between toy birds and our real birds. It is wonderful to see students grasping our unit concepts and being able to explain their knowledge as we progress through this unit.
What’s Happening In Our Class This Week
This week, our class pet is the tortoise, Mr. Tortoise. He is quite the change from the lively rabbits and birds we have had. It will be interesting to see how the students interact to Mr. Tortoise and how their knowledge of pet care from the bunnies and birds transfers to our new class pet. Students will learn to be responsible for Mr. Tortoise and the needs he has. We will keep inquiring into how human behaviour impacts living things and what this means when we have pets.
On Monday Night, AIS will host it’s 3rd Annual Math Night! Between 5:30 and 7:00 PM, come and enjoy Math fun throughout the years at AIS! There will be activities for all ages and lots of learning to get involved in. It is one of our favourite nights of the year! We hope to see you there!
Kuwait National Day
This year, we will be celebrating Kuwait National Day on Thursday, February 23rd. Students may dress in traditional Kuwaiti clothing or wear the colours of the Kuwait flag. We will be taking part in an assembly with the whole elementary school in the morning and will have our own Pre-K assembly later in the day. We would also like to have a small celebration in class including traditional Kuwaiti food. I would kindly like to ask for volunteers to bring in traditional Kuwaiti food for the us to enjoy. This may include Machboos, Sambousak, Harees, Jareesh, Kuwaiti desserts or any other traditional Kuwait food. I am sure a lot of you know more than these few items I have mentioned so please feel free to send anything that is Kuwaiti! Also, please know that it is not necessary for every parent to send food or we will have too much food! We only need Kuwaiti food, please do not send pizza, popcorn, cupcakes, etc.
Please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org to let me know what you are able to bring so that we do not have multiples of one type of food.
Thank you for your continuous support!
